Purpose:
Apply educational knowledge, skills, principles and methods to practise as an architect on a highly specialised level and distinguishing themselves as leaders in the specialised area of study. Learners will also be eligible to follow an academic career as tutor in Architecture up to the level of senior lecturer, and in exceptional cases, as professor, and distinguishing themselves as leaders in the specialised area and be sufficiently competent to apply research methodology procedures at this level in the area of study.
There are two routes to obtaining a MArch - by research, or by coursework and discourse. The purpose of these two routes varies slightly:

The first purpose of the qualification is to provide learners with Postgraduate-level knowledge, specific skills and applied competence in a number of specialist fields of Humanities that provide opportunities for continued personal intellectual growth, gainful economic activity and rewarding contributions to society. The qualification represents planned learning outcomes, namely that the learner will be qualified to render holistic, integrated and intersectoral services, reflecting diversity, accessibility and equal distribution of resources for all South Africans. The outcomes are designed to promote lifelong learning.
