The qualification is designed to: - Provide a solid foundation in current research methods, analytical skills capacity for independent research work and identifying the social, and cultural of linguistic problems in society and find solutions to these problems.
The purpose of the qualification is to equip learners with the kind of knowledge and applied competencies in the African languages, that will enable them to have a principled understanding of the factors relevant to the successful planning, implementation and management of discourse practices for African languages in professional contexts (government, private sector, education) in relation to multilingual language policy.Given the broad purpose outlined above, the specific purposes of the programme are:

1. To give advanced learners with broad academic back-grounds in various fields and disciplines the opportunity to do research on a particular theme/topic which will utilise their varied skills in an integrated way.
- A learner who achieves qualifications in this programme will be a competent reader, writer and speaker of Afrikaans at advanced level.
The qualification will expose learners to the frontiers of knowledge in Afrikaans, by enabling them actively to engage with first hand research and extensive writing.
The primary purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifying learners with the applied competence in the acquisition, analysis, interpretation and understanding of advanced literary and linguistic principles and methods. The qualification prepares learners for a language-based career, and it provides a basis for further learning.
Purpose:
The purpose of this programme is to enable candidates to acquire adequate research skills in Afrikaans and Netherlands within the Faculty of Arts. This requires attention to the following three important aspects: - A broadening and deepening of a student's knowledge in the Afrikaans and Netherlands disciplines as specified. This is achieved through course work leading to detailed literature surveys.

Enable graduates to pursue a theoretical understanding of the discipline at an advanced level and conduct specialised research.
The primary purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifying learners with applied competence in, and knowledge of one or more contemporary relevant fields of social and cultural anthropology. The learner will develop higher order skills with regard to research methods, fieldwork, analysis of data, interpretation of social and cultural dimensions of human life, application of anthropological understanding in new contexts, and the presentation of results in written and oral forms. The learner will develop the ability to work independently and to contribute, though their own research reports, to the body of knowledge in the field.
