Purpose and rationale

The purpose of this programme is to enable candidates to acquire adequate research skills in Afrikaans and Netherlands within the Faculty of Arts. This requires attention to the following three important aspects:

  • A broadening and deepening of a student's knowledge in the Afrikaans and Netherlands disciplines as specified. This is achieved through course work leading to detailed literature surveys.
  • The development of basic research skills.
  • The writing of a mini-thesis on the basis of an accepted research proposal.

Entry requirements and RPL

Students with an Honours degree or equivalent (NQF level 7) will be admitted into this programme.

Recognition of prior learning

Prior learning and/or relevant experience will be recognised for entry into this programme where applicable and subject to Senate's discretion.
