The purpose of this programme is to train computer scientists with detailed technical knowledge required of software engineers. In addition to technical knowledge this program is intended to instil in learners an ability to learn on their own and the ability to pursue more advanced research.

The purposes of the qualification are: - To provide qualifiers with specialised knowledge, specific skills and applied competence in a natural science discipline that provide opportunities for continued personal intellectual growth, gainful economic activity and rewarding contributions to society.

To provide graduates with a specialised knowledge in Computer Science through study in depth; to equip them with a knowledge of research methodology and to produce in them the ability to solve problems and develop applications by the use of appropriate theory, techniques, methods and algorithms from the field of computer science. These graduates should be good communicators in spoken and written English, to both expert and non-expert audiences. The programme is intended to provide the country with graduates who have a speciahsed knowledge in the computer sciences and can therefore serve the community in a variety of important ways, in both the public and private sectors.

The purpose of this qualification is to provide learners with an advanced theoretical and practical knowledge about the nature of computing. It prepares the learners for research-based Postgraduate study. This qualification serves to deepen the learner's expertise in the computing discipline and to develop research capacity in the methodology and techniques of computing.

The aim of this qualification is to equip learners with Postgraduate-Level knowledge, skills and competency appropriate to a professional career as a Construction Manager in the construction and property industries. Moreover, it aims to provide the construction professions in South Africa with learners who meet the academic requirements for professional registration. The qualification promotes adequate infrastructure and human capital to competitively position South Africa in the Building Sciences environment. It also addresses national and global challenges in the field of Building Sciences.
