The interdisciplinary program of Community Resource provides graduates with the skills necessary to assist in the empowerment of communities through managing, improving, creating, and preserving the community resources of personal growth, food supplies and processing, the environment (incl housing), health and nutrition, community organisation and community based social services.

It will prepare broadly based graduate capable of developing the fundamentals of computer programming, and with the expertise to analyse, design, operate and manage computer systems, contributing to the country's need for an increase in manpower and self sufficiency in the computer science industry. It will prepare competent personnel who are able to understand the organisation and operation of computer hardware. It will help in the transfer of a technology that is undergoing rapid development. It will provide personnel who are capable of meeting the nation's present and future needs in the academic and vocational spheres. It will further prepare students for advanced graduate studies in computer science.

The purpose of this qualification is to provide learners with a generalized understanding of principles and theories, which inform the broad fields of government and business while also grounding them meaningfully on the nature and implications of ethical considerations in both areas. Also the qualification will enable learners to develop their practical skills in a way that prepares them for post-graduates studies or careers in business or government.

To develop a core of persons with a wide knowledge of international affairs who can make a contribution to shaping foreign policy, economic polices, and to develop initial skills in research methodology.

The Philosophy programme is an academic and broadly vocational discipline which aims to equip students with the capacity to reflect on broad questions having to do with the nature of ethics, justice, science and rationality. It provides intensive study of the history of philosophy. It also seeks to recruit this history of thought, critique and argumentation to the purpose of considering questions pertaining to the society and culture in transition that is contemporary South Africa.

To realise a high Degree of sustained proficiency in both scholarship and professional training at all Postgraduate level in a combination of policy and development studies.

Political Science is a discipline with both academic and vocational elements. It equips learners with the ability to reason abstractly through understanding and analysing political concepts. It enables them to grasp the political dimensions of social and economic phenomena. It provides them with the ability critically to analyse, interpret and explain political events and processes both in South Africa and globally. A strong research skills component, focussing specifically on the methodology and techniques used for political science research (both qualitative, such as data interpretation, and quantitative) and on training in IT skills, are central to all qualifications earned through the qualification. This qualification has a clear vocational aspect in that it equips learners with both knowledge and analytical skills necessary to careers in the public service, politics, journalism, corporate governance and the NG0 sector.

Public Policy Programme is an academic and broadly vocational qualification, which aims to equip learners with an understanding of the processes and structures, through which policy development and implementation take place. The qualification will also provide learners with the skills required to conduct research which is policy directed. Such academic and vocational training is crucial in South Africa at present given the need for new policy formulation to address the multiplicity of social problems and developmental goals. The policy field is a growing one in South Africa in both the private and the public sector, and job opportunities for learners who have qualified from the public policy qualification will be in demand in both of these sectors.

To enable graduates to deepen their knowledge of social theory and research into social processes and social organisation and develop initial skills in research methodology.

The need to foster sustainable development through the management of environmental resources and the elimination of poverty is a major regional challenge.
