To produce graduates who understand economics, financial and business management and who are able to apply their knowledge at farm, agribusiness and policy levels through their knowledge of such systems. Agricultural development, marketing and finance are becoming increasingly important and require graduates with broad-based training in agriculture, commerce and social sciences. This qualification emphasises job mobility. The following careers are open to graduates; commercial banks, National Department of Agriculture, farming, agribusiness sector and consulting.

The purpose of the qualification is to train learners in the fields of economics and business applied to the agricultural and natural resources sector.

The (first) purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifiers with graduate-level (Level 6) knowledge, specific skills and applied competence in the field of animal science, that provide for continued personal intellectual growth, gainful economic and rewarding contributions to society.

The qualification in Animal Science have been designed to ensure that learners acquired analytical, reasoning, communication and computer literacy skills. Real-life problems encountered in the commercial, small-scale emerging livestock farmers and public sector are used to develop skills.

The agricultural industry, which underpins all aspects of the South African economy, requires applied scientists with high levels of knowledge and skills to help supply the population's spiralling demand for food from scarce resources. In support of the strengthening and developing of links between science and agriculture, the school of Agricultural Sciences and Agribusiness offers a professional qualification in Animal and Poultry Science which leads to Master of Science in Agriculture, and Doctor of Philosophy.

The qualification with Horticultural Sciences core modules aims to develop the knowledge, specific skills and applied competence in Horticultural Sciences of learners to a specified level of analysis, interpretation and understanding of horticultural concepts in all spheres of human endeavor, in preparation for a career in: - Industry and business.

To produce graduates that at the BScAgric level have a broad background and have specialist knowledge and skills in the main discipline of Plant Pathology.

The qualification in Plant Production seeks to impart all-round basic knowledge of agriculture with a major focus on plant production particularly as it relates to field crops including forage crops. Requisite agronomic management and other relevant technical and management skills will be imparted to prepare the learner for a career in the private and public sectors.

To produce graduates with an understanding of soil science who are able to manage soil and water resources in order to (a) minimize or rehabilitate industrial environmental disturbance and contamination and (b) manage agricultural and horticultural production systems in a sustainable manner.
