The primary purpose of the qualification is to provide Honours Bachelor of Arts (BA) graduates with systematic knowledge, specialised skills and theoretical competence focusing on or within a particular discipline or within an interdisciplinary framework to prepare them for specialist training at an advanced level.

The purpose of his qualification is to develop in learners a critical understanding of the role of language as the primary form of human communication in society amongst at least two language groups. Learners will develop a sophisticated proficiency in the use of at least one language, increase their capacity to interpret and analyse various forms of discourse and acquire applied language and communication expertise in Translation.

The primary purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifying learners with the ability to discuss the theory and methodology of Urban Studies and to be able to contribute to current debates in Urban Studies at an intermediate level. He/she will be able to apply this knowledge to issues pertinent to the field of Urban Studies in the Southern African context.
