Bachelor of Arts Honours in Translation
The purpose of his qualification is to develop in learners a critical understanding of the role of language as the primary form of human communication in society amongst at least two language groups. Learners will develop a sophisticated proficiency in the use of at least one language, increase their capacity to interpret and analyse various forms of discourse and acquire applied language and communication expertise in Translation.

Purpose and rationale
The purpose of his qualification is to develop in learners a critical understanding of the role of language as the primary form of human communication in society amongst at least two language groups. Learners will develop a sophisticated proficiency in the use of at least one language, increase their capacity to interpret and analyse various forms of discourse and acquire applied language and communication expertise in Translation.
Entry requirements and RPL
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

The institution is currently reforming its assessment strategies to include the assessment of applied competence for each qualification. In the meantime, a combination of continuous assessment and traditional written examinations serve to assess the integration of all/most of the learning outcomes for each module in a qualification.
Learners will demonstrate their ability and proficiency in each of the learning outcomes. These are assessed in an integrated manner by assignments, tutorials, oral presentations and examinations. Also, the learner's integration of knowledge and skills will be assessed through the completion of an appropriate translation project (Postgraduate Diploma and Honours) or a research project and translation (for the MA: Translation Studies).
