The primary purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifying learners with advanced competence in the acquisition, interpretation and application of specific and social work principles and methods. The purpose is to: further enhance professional ethics and practices, specifically applicable to the social profession, to enable application of a research-practice paradigm and promote life-long learning.

The qualification aims:

The aim of the programme is to train students in managerial skills for employment in industrial organisations, Public Service and teaching service.

The primary purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifying learners with the ability to discuss the theory and methodology of Sociology and to contribute to current debates in Sociology on an intermediate level. Learners will be able to apply this knowledge to issues pertinent to the field of Sociology in the South Africa context. Also, a qualifying learner will be able to plan, design, and execute research, using appropriate methodology, and report on research findings. He/she will be able to understand, interpret, analyse and present research data.

The aim of this qualification is to provide an opportunity to students to broaden their knowledge in Sociology within the Faculty of Arts. This provides an opportunity to read extensively, to become acquainted with some of the classic texts in the Sociology discipline, to become involved in a conversation with its most important thinkers and to take part in these debates with confidence. The solid basis that is acquired in this way prepares the student for Postgraduate research. This provides an opportunity not only to broaden but also to deepen insight in the discipline as specified.

The qualification aims at providing learners with the necessary inter-disciplinary knowledge and practical competence to manage sport and recreation activities for the broader community, as well as top-level sports persons. The courses are structured to ensure that learners develop a comprehensive understanding of the management discipline by completing modules within Economic and Management Sciences, but that they also understand the context within which their knowledge has to be applied through the exploration of relevant human movement studies subject matter.

This programme is designed to present students who wish to pursue research in Human Movement Studies with the necessary in-depth knowledge and research skills. The multi-disciplinary nature of the curriculum allows students to engage with research developments in the various sub-disciplines with a view to identifying an appropriate research topic. Although students could terminate their studies upon completion of this Degree, the programme is designed to prepare students for independent research at a Masters Level.
