Purpose:

The purpose of the qualification is to prepare learners at an advanced level for a management in the fields of economics and business applied to the agricultural and natural resources sector. This course targets specifically those that have to operate at policy and operational level in institutions dealing with the socio-economic problems of developing areas.

The Faculty of Agriculture aims at educating learners for life and equipping them with the skills to enable them to face the challenges of a dynamic agriculture sector, with emphasis on small-scale agriculture. In order to meet this objective, the Faculty of Agriculture, predominantly through the Department of Agricultural Economics, Extension and Rural Development, offers a programme in Agricultural Economics, Farm Business Management and Extension which builds on a strong foundation of applied agriculture provided by the Department of Livestock and Pasture Science and the Department of Agronomy.

Apply educational knowledge, skills, principles and methods to apply management skills to most management and production subjects within agriculture and practice the management profession in agriculture. Emphasis is placed on the managerial issues relating to agriculture as well as awareness of the complexity of sustainability within the agricultural environment

The purpose of the Bachelor of Agriculture Honours in Agricultural Extension and Rural Resource Management is to develop the capacity of Agricultural Extension Practitioners who will work in agricultural and rural development in the NGO sector, for government service, for agri business and for other private sector companies involved with farmers and rural communities

The purpose of the qualification is to provide learners with a proper understanding and knowledge of extension and an integrated and effective mix of extension skills that build on prior graduate-level agricultural knowledge in a variety of disciplines in the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and Natural Sciences in such a way that a high qualification of growth in extension skills and competence can readily take place.

The purpose of the qualification is to offer a higher Degree in Land-use Planning. Candidates will have the competencies and advanced skills to facilitate Land-use Planning in rural communities to promote sustainable Agriculture.
