1. The first purpose of the qualification is to provide learners with an in-depth knowledge base at least the following substantive areas in Psychology: the Biological Bases of Human Behaviour, the Social Context of Behaviour, Community Psychotherapeutic Interventions, Psychological Research.

The primary purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifying learners with a broad-based foundation of strong and cohesive skills for further studies in advanced Psychology. Learners should also acquire a skills foundation for applied and fundamental research in Psychology at a Master's level. Learners should also obtain analytical, interpretive and integrative skills that have practical value for the society as a whole. Learners should also be able to reflect on advanced Psychology and develop a holistic view of advanced Psychology and its applications in various contexts.

The purpose of the qualification is to prepare Psychometrists to function effectively in any appropriate setting, including independent practice, by providing training and experience within the relevant scope of practice. It will provide learners with advanced knowledge, skills and attitudes related to assessing, understanding, explaining and developing human behaviour in a multi-cultural context. In addition to this, the qualification will give learners entrance into the National Examination of the Professional Board for Psychology, after which they can register and practice as a Psychometrist. Value will be added to the qualifying individual in terms of relevant knowledge and skills and these will hold pertinent benefits to the institution and society in which they will practice the knowledge and skills.
