The qualification represents planned learning outcomes, namely that the learner will be qualified to render holistic, integrated and intersectoral services, reflecting diversity, accessibility, and equal distribution of resources for all South Africans. These outcomes are designed to promote lifelong learning.

The Bachelor of Arts Honours in African Politics aims to deepen the student's expertise in African Politics, obtained in a relevant Bachelor's Degree. This qualification demands a high level of theoretical engagement and intellectual independence, and prepares students for a research-based Postgraduate study.

Deeper knowing of and about Africa, her contributions to world civilization; cultural heritage; impact of European and Asian encounters with Africans; the ideals of liberation movements as well as the struggle for majority rule.

The primary purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifying learners with applied competence in intellectual and analytical skills with a view to the acquisition of knowledge of analysing, interpreting and understanding of events, as well as economic, social, political and cultural relationships and life situations in Africa as a region.

To develop at postgraduate level the reading, writing, thinking and analytical skills of learners. Critical, interpretative and evaluative abilities of learners will also be developed, within the context of more specialised and more intensive courses than were offered at undergraduate level.
