The main purpose of the qualification is the attainment of more advanced scientific knowledge through research to equip the learner for independent research on an advanced level in one or more of the advanced dental sciences in the preclinical and clinical fields in dentistry.

The qualification is structured to prepare learners from diverse non-planning backgrounds to become competent at the level of an assistant in planning practice, and after two years of planning experience to register as a corporate planner (NB the designation of different categories of planner may change to fit those in a current draft Bill before Parliament). This competency would be reflected in the ability to research problems as well as to synthesise practicable solutions to the problems, to a professionally determined standard. On receipt of this planning qualification, the learner may opt to study further in related fields, such as project management or traffic engineering. The qualification adds value to the qualifying learner by providing him or her with economic opportunities and a choice of career paths resulting in professional status and recognition in the community.

The first purpose of the Master of Science (Entomology) qualification is to provide qualifiers with mid post-graduate-level knowledge, specific skills and applied competence in a number of fields of entomological science that provide for continued personal intellectual growth, gainful economic activity and rewarding contributions to society.

The primary purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifying learners with the ability to: - Develop the intellectual and practical skills of a highly trained Environmental Manager.

To produce leaders in the field of environmental Science. The programme aims to permit learners to take advanced level modules in a selected specialisation or to broaden their knowledge and skills base. The programme is based on a sound understanding of the functioning of natural systems; integrative and problem-solving activities focus on adding value to the undergraduate and Honours training. In addition to providing integration and breadth, the programme aims, through its specialist modules, to develop specialist, in-depth knowledge that builds on the disciplinary foundation of the former degree. Learners will be able to further experience complex environmental science problems and situations and contribute to their insolutions through independent research and critical analysis.
