This qualification aims to recognise those who have made a distinguished, original contribution to engineering practice, over a number of years, through engineering developments of major, technological, economic or social significance.
This qualification includes the various specialisations in Engineering. Please refer to "Notes" for details on the specialisations.
The purpose of the qualification is to make a significant contribution to knowledge in the selected field of study. This qualification provides our country with a cadre of teachers, who will have a clear and continuously growing understanding of the methods and progress of engineering activities.

This qualification is intended for chemical engineers or technologists working in process related industries. Learners achieving this qualification have the competence to conduct independent research under minimal guidance in the field of chemical engineering, and contribute significantly to knowledge production through the understanding, application and evaluation of existing knowledge. The research problem, its justification, process and outcome is reported in a dissertation which complies with the generally accepted norms for research at that level
