IsiZulu aims at equipping first and second language students with she skills to analyse critically and scientifically aspects of language, literature and culture. Students are taught creative literary skills, the scientific analysis of literature as well as the phonetics, phonology and syntax of the isiZulu language. Second language students acquire speaking, reading and writing skills and are introduced to traditional and modern literature. This is in line with the new language policy of multilingualism. There is a great challenge for students in the form of lexicography both theoretical and practical components fro those who wish to become lexicographers, terminographers, translators and interpreters, editors, language planners etc. From an economic point of view the most important task of the translator is to develop and promote the translation industry. In this context, we think of the accreditation body for language workers by PANSALB.

The primary purpose of this qualification is to develop the intermediate applied competence of qualifying learners in Journalism. Intermediate applied competence implies the advanced ability to acquire, analyse, interpret and apply complex communication principles and theories related to the context of Journalism within relevant sectors of the print and electronic media and the broadcasting industry. Furthermore, learners will develop the highly sophisticated ability to internalise, reflect and communicate complex strategic decisions and applications effectively through the progressive and suitable use of scientific language and technical terminology associated with Journalism. This qualification will facilitate effective critical learning through exposure to and application of specialised learning styles, thereby enabling the learner to navigate and holistically manage the multifaceted, dynamic context of Journalism.

This provides an opportunity to read extensively, to become acquainted with some of the classic texts in the Latin discipline, to become involved in a conversation with its most important thinkers and to take part in these debates with confidence. The solid basis that is acquired in this way prepares the learner for postgraduate research. This provides an opportunity not only to broaden but also to deepen insight in the discipline as specified.
