Doctor of Public Administration

The Doctorate will

• Enable qualifiers to develop in-depth, advanced discipline specific skills and applied competence in Commerce and Industry and the Public sector that provide opportunities for continued personal intellectual growth, gainful employment and making a rewarding contribution to society.
• Empower qualifiers to solve complex commercial/administration problems in a focused way and to effectively manage and allocate resources, to communicate effectively and to contribute to knowledge and socio-economic transformation in a responsible and ethical manner.
• Provide South Africa with significant numbers of highly skilled person power particularly from disadvantaged communities, in Commerce and Industry and in the Public Sector in order to ensure that the leadership base of innovative and knowledge-based economic and scholarly activity is strengthened and diversified.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

This qualification may be accessed through the Recognition of Prior Learning, which includes formal learning and work experience.

Entry Requirements

A Master's Degree, Level 9 plus relevant work experience.

1. Display expert, highly specialised public administrative and advanced research skills in an economic and management sciences or related discipline.
2. Demonstrate the ability to identify, analyse and solve highly complex Public Administrative commercial problems in a systematic, critical and creative way.
3. Acquire a specialised understanding of how to manage resources and processes in a business context.
4. Communicate effectively, in oral and written modes, and to articulate and promote their own ideas and interests.
5. Contribute towards the extension of knowledge in an Economic and Management Sciences or related discipline.
6. Possess an in-depth understanding and contribution to the socio-economic challenges of developing South Africa in an ethical and responsible manner.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcomes

• Highly specialised Public Administrative and advanced research skills is displayed in Economic and Management Sciences or related discipline.
• The ability to identify, analyse and solve highly complex Public Administrative commercial problems is demonstrated in a systematic, critical and creative way.
• A specialised understanding of how to manage resources and processes is demonstrated in a business context.
• Ideas and interests are articulated and promoted through effective Communication in oral and written modes.
• The extension of knowledge is contributed towards in Economic and Management Sciences through projects and programmes developed.
• An in-depth understanding and contribution to the socio-economic challenges of developing South Africa is demonstrated in an ethical and responsible manner.
