Be able to make an original contribution towards the basic and applied knowledge in the field of Microbiology.
Be able to write a thesis and compile from it research articles to be published in international journals based on independent original research in the field of Microbiology.

Exit level outcomes
1 Undertakes independent research in the field of Microbiology and makes a contribution to scientific knowledge
2 Produces a thesis within the prescribed time
3 Publish or prepare at least one draft article for publication in a recognised journal. The article or draft article shall be based on the research done for the thesis
4 Give a public lecture/defence on his/her research findings before a competent jury composed at least of two external examiners

1 The candidate presents a research proposal including the follwing
Motivation for undertaking the particular research, research hypothesis and objectives, detailed methodology, work plan financial implications and references
Integrated assessment
Progress is continuously monitored.
The final mark allocated for the degree is based on the evaluation and assessment of a thesis based on independent research, two research articles based on the thesis and an oral examination conducted by an examination committee constituted by all academic staff and the external moderator(s) which will allocate the final mark after the oral examination in the presence of the examination committee.
