Purpose and rationale
This qualification is intended to establish a thorough research competence in the field of Pan African Letters (although approved topics in world literature, particularly in a comparative mode, may be studied) The student completing this course should be fully conversant with the full range of Pan African discourses and concepts and theories that are directly relevant to the discourses.
It will contribute to developing discourses on post-slave trade, post-colonial revolution of African consciousness and initiate debates on specific issues relating to the immediate cultural environment of the learner.
The graduate should be capable of independent research, leading to publishable articles and books on literacy topics.
The graduate will be equipped as a teacher, research guide or supervisor in his/her area of specialisation up to highest Level.

- Literature from different sources is critically read, interpreted, analysed and identified.
- A complete bibliography and reference list is compiled.
