The qualification aims
- To enable learners to acquire historical knowledge, research techniques and methodology.
- To enable learners to conduct scientific research in historical events to make a meaningful contribution to historical science.
- To enable learners to apply the results of their research in solving problems in other areas such as government and commerce.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.
