Purpose and rationale

Purpose

The qualification aims at targeting top managers or operations specialist managers, within an operations management environment. Learners achieving this qualification will be competent in applying and managing operations management, research, strategies and tools, systems and techniques in the enterprise. The learner will be able to optimise the resource usage in a company to benefit the bottom line; the encumber will be able to act independently or as a member of the board. He/she will be eligible to register as a Professional Technician.

Entry requirements and RPL

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

Entry Requirements

The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is

  • Master of Engineering in Operations Management, NQF Level 9.

Exit level outcomes

  1. Research advanced management science principles, techniques, tools and systems in research and the working environment, in order to optimise the operations and services of the enterprise.
  2. Manage all resources in the given or specified environment.
  3. Apply research skills such as:
  • Situation analysis.
  • Defining problems.
  • Literature survey.
  • Quantitative analyses.
  • Reasoning and logic.
  • Drawing conclusions.
  • Making proposals to optimise manufacturing and service competitiveness in advanced integrated business situations.

  • Financial management for the improvement of a specified problem area.

  • Demonstration of ability through a research dissertation, which is assessed continuously for system, style, content and correct use of research principles.

Integrated Assessment

Assessment across the qualification forms an integral part of the teaching and learning process. In achieving the learning outcomes, learners are required to comply with the minimum assessments set for the level of the qualification, as per the Institution's Assessment Policy. Assessments vary depending on the module and the outcomes of the module; however, all modules are formatively and summatively assessed. The assessment of theoretical modules is usually in the form of assignments, practical's and written tests or examinations.

Continuous evaluation occurs during the process of producing research and a thesis.
