Purpose and rationale
This qualification includes the various specialisations in Commerce. Please refer to "Notes" for details on the specialisations.
The purpose of the qualification is to promote advanced and highly original work in the field of economic and management sciences. The research should evolve around a central theme and represent a research portfolio established over the long term.
The second purpose is to produce scholars in the field of economic and management sciences who are rated amongst the best in the world.
Entry requirements and RPL
Senior Certificate with Matriculation Exemption or equivalent university admission qualification.
First degree: BComm; BAcc; BBusSc; BLogistics
Honours degree: BComm Hons; BEcon Hons; BAcc Hons; BLogistics Hons; BPub Management Hons; B&A Hons
Masters degree: MComm; MEcon; MAcc; MLogistics; MBA; MPub Management, MTRP
or an appropriate Masters degree or qualification approved by Senate for this purpose. Depending on the chosen of study, additional work and or proof of competency may be required.

The DComm graduate will have
- demonstrated the ability to undertake and publish highly advanced, highly original and highly creative work in the field of economic and management sciences.
The DComm graduate will have
- Demonstrated intenational academic leadership in a particular area of the field of economic and management science.
Associated assessment criteria
- A portfolio of internationally published research
- A dissertation and oral examination based on the research portfolio
INTEGRATED ASSESSMENT
Candidates must submit a doctoral dissertation containing the report of their research, The dissertation has to meet all the standards and requirements of a doctoral dissertation-which include proof of a successful integration of all the elements required to substantiate the central thesis and contribution(s) of the study.
