Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is
- Advance Diploma in Music, NQF Level 7.

- Apply disciplinary knowledge and research skills;
- Analyse and critique communications of an academic and popular nature;

The following associated assessment criteria apply across all Exit Level Outcomes
- Familiar with contemporary theoretical issues in musicological studies;
- Apply a range of advanced research methods to research problems in musicology;
- Conduct advanced literature searches and critique current literature in the form of a review;
- Perform publicly as a soloist or as a member of an ensemble;
- Write research and funding proposals.

- Use of appropriate methods of data collection and analysis;
- Integration of findings;
- Appreciation of the limits of the study;
- Use of the publication and style conventions of the discipline;
- The practical component is assessed through a series of public performances which will include solo and ensemble work.
- The performances are subject to external examination.
