Purpose and rationale

Purpose

Apply educational knowledge, skills, principles and methods as professional medical practitioners and health service managers with specialisation in the field of community health. Learners will demonstrate knowledge, skills and applied competence in the field of study that provide opportunities for continued personal growth, gainful economic activity and rewarding contributions to society.

Entry requirements and RPL

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience.

In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

Entry Requirements

The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is

  • Advanced Diploma in Health Management, NQF Level 7.

Associated assessment criteria

  • To promote the understanding of health care and the management and treatment of diseases and injury with special emphasis on community health.
  • To have knowledge and understanding of communicable and non-communicable health related conditions and theory of epidemiology, biostatistics and demography.

Integrated Assessment

Learners will demonstrate their knowledge and skills in accordance with standards laid down by the University and Professional Board through:

  • Logbooks.
  • Assignments.
  • Clinical work and tests and examinations.
  • Oral tests and examinations.

Competence is achieved, through continuous assessment by demonstrating the ability to achieve the outcomes of the Qualification:

  • Module course mark.
  • Workplace assessment through practicals.
  • Workplace assessment through student teaching.
  • Assignments.
  • Oral and group work.
  • Examinations.
  • Informal evaluation, e.g. feedback, residency, assignments.
  • Formal evaluations tests and practical (skills) and oral examinations.
  • Formal end evaluation.
