Entry requirements and RPL

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

Entry requirements

The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is

  • Advanced Diploma in Actuarial science, NQF Level 7.

Exit level outcomes

  1. Study and understand the South African business environment.
  2. Apply classical and contemporary management theory to a variety of organisational environments.
  3. Analyse and construct logical arguments and competing viewpoints.
  4. Research business issues.
  5. Form independent and research-based opinions about contemporary issues of theory and practice.
  6. Understand and apply the fundamentals of the financial aspects of a business and the environment in which that business operates.
  7. Operate an IBM-compatible personal computer.

Associated assessment criteria

The following associated assessment criteria apply across all Exit Level Outcomes

  • Utilise the Windows operating system and work competently with Windows-based data management, word processing and spreadsheeting applications to create, edit, save and print documents to professional industry standard;
  • Apply appropriate information technology to a variety of organisation situations;
  • Correspond through the use of electronic mail;
  • Conduct internet-based research;
  • Analyse and interpret the marketing process considering current trends in the South African context;
  • Formulate a marketing strategy that supports the objectives of an organisation using the marketing concept, target marketing and the marketing mix.

Integrated Assessment

The learner will be assessed specifically on foundational competencies in critical literacy, critical reasoning, a high level of numeracy in all courses through a mixture of formal examinations and group tutorials.

In all such assignments, a learner's performance will be assessed based on his or her

i) Demonstration of ability to organise ideas and facts logically and coherently.

ii) Ability to integrate numerical data into prose, descriptions and arguments.

The learner will be explicitly assessed on practical competencies in the ability to identify, assess and formulate and solve convergent and divergent problems related to actuarial practice. Such competence is assessed through written examinations and group classwork.

This qualification offers both possibilities of horizontal and vertical articulation.

Horizontal Articulation

  • Bachelor of Science Honours in Actuarial Science, NQF Level 8.
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Mathematical Statistics, NQF Level 8.

Vertical Articulation

  • Master of Science in Actuarial Science, NQF Level 9.
