Purpose and rationale

  1. To provide a strong basis for logical and imaginative thinking necessary for the study of abstract mathematics such as in mathematical analysis, algebra, topology or applied analysis.
  2. To provide a sound mathematical basis for the purpose of active research work in the fields of mathematics.
  3. To provide skills for solving advanced mathematical problems.
  4. To provide some mathematical skills for solving, analysing and articulating mathematical problems obtaining in real life situations such as industries, commerce, government, etc.
  5. To provide skills necessary for one to respond to the needs of society in matters related to mathematics.

The learners should

Skills acquired will be of benefit for resolving problems that may arise in applied and applicable mathematics, theoretical and applied physics, theoretical and applied chemistry, and subjects requiring knowledge of analytic and or algebraic techniques.

Associated assessment criteria

This will consist of continuous assessment, which involve tutorials, class seminars, written examinations in all the prescribes modules, and a written dissertation in one of the modules.

The intended purpose of this Master of Accountancy is to provide the learners with a professional, vocational, and sound understanding of the general theoretical principles and their applications in the field of research accountancy. The qualification will be treated according to the policies and procedures of the institution regarding master's dissertations, monitoring, and assessment of learners' progress in the qualification, provision for learners disputes regarding assessment results and Recognition of Prior Learning. The qualification aims to enhance research capacity and increase access by providing an opportunity to articulate to master's degree. The qualification will accommodate learners with a postgraduate diploma and relevant honours/qualifications on NQF level 8, a minimum of 120 credits achieved at other institutions as well as vertical articulation from relevant master's degrees.
