Purpose and rationale
Purpose
The qualifying learner will be able to conduct independent research under minimal guidance in a chosen field and contribute to knowledge production in that field. The research problem, its justification, process and outcome are reported in a dissertation, which complies with the generally accepted norms for research at that level.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
The institution conducts Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

- Bachelor of Engineering Science in Biomedical Engineering, NQF Level 8.

Qualification rules
The qualification will be awarded to a learner who has provided evidence to the satisfaction of the assessors that the stated competence of the qualification, as detailed in the specified outcomes, has been achieved, either through education and training in a provider's learning programme, or through experience that complies with the stated outcomes.
Exit level outcomes
- Identify and solve problems and thinking critically and creatively in designing, executing and reporting on a specialised area of Biomedical Technology.
- Collect, organise, analyse and evaluate information by data collection, and it is synthesising into a logical contribution to the knowledge in the particular field chosen for the study.
- Work effectively with specialised scientists in the particular field at a high academic level.
- Manage one's own time to achieve execution of a research plan and integrate all the conflicting information pertinent to the study.
- Communicate, particularly in scientific terms, in an internationally acceptable style both verbally and in written reports and publications.
- Use science and technology to contribute to the knowledge and understanding in the field is an overt outcome of this qualification.

A comprehensive literature base is critically analysed and evaluated to establish recent trends in technologies, techniques, models and theories in the chosen field.
- Models, principles, theories, techniques and methodologies in the chosen field are analysed, explained, and used correctly in oral presentations and the dissertation.

The research problem is clearly identified, defined and detailed in the research proposal where the stated hypothesis directs the investigation.
- The appropriate methods and techniques are selected and applied in the collection of qualitative and quantitative data where appropriate.
- Experimental research is responsibly and ethically conducted.
- Logical interpretation of data reflects clear understanding of the relationship between facts in the study and the ability to evaluate contradictory information.
- The inferences, interpretation and conclusions based on critical review of evidence from measurements and statistical analyses are valid.

- Information technology is applied effectively in the production of the dissertation/research report.
- Language and numeracy skills are applied effectively and correctly in clearly communicating the research problem, its investigation, the outcome, and the recommendations.

Purpose:
The intended purpose of this Master of Accountancy is to provide the learners with a professional, vocational, and sound understanding of the general theoretical principles and their applications in the field of research accountancy.
