To give advanced learners with broad academic back grounds in various fields and disciplines the opportunity to do research on a particular theme/topic which will utilise their varied skills in an integrated way.
To give skills for those ready to serve in public and private sectors such as public relations, administration, the ministry, culture and the acts, community developers and extension workers, government officials in local, provincial and national levels
To give the qualifying learners broad knowledge for professional training in administration, public relations, journalism. To prepare qualifying learners for PhD.
Entry requirements and RPL
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is
- Bachelor of Arts in African Studies, NQF Level 7.

Exit level outcomes
- Critically and rationally research an aspect of African Studies as well as draw valid conclusions from that place which help society in looking for the way ahead.
- Integrating knowledge acquired from different disciplines in the undergraduate, Postgraduate Diploma and Honours Degrees, in their researches the learners give back to those different fields outlooks for integrating knowledge.

- Workplace assessments.

- Conference with supervisor at least twice a semester.
- Have thesis topic approved by the Centre's higher degrees committee.

- Dissertation supervised by qualified staff.

There are two routes which can be followed to achieve the Master of Philosophy:
Purpose:
The intended purpose of this Master of Accountancy is to provide the learners with a professional, vocational, and sound understanding of the general theoretical principles and their applications in the field of research accountancy. The qualification will be treated according to the policies and procedures of the institution regarding master's dissertations, monitoring, and assessment of learners' progress in the qualification, provision for learners disputes regarding assessment results and Recognition of Prior Learning. The qualification aims to enhance research capacity and increase access by providing an opportunity to articulate to master's degree. The qualification will accommodate learners with a postgraduate diploma and relevant honours/qualifications on NQF level 8, a minimum of 120 credits achieved at other institutions as well as vertical articulation from relevant master's degrees.
