Purpose and rationale

To provide mid career managers in the private, public and voluntary sectors with specialised knowledge and skills about selected complex technical aspects of management, public project management, public financial management, public personnel management) in order to promote sustainable growth and development and maximise prosperity in all sectors of the economy and society.

To develop competent leaders in the field of Public and Development Management with specialised applied fundamental and generic cross functional technical knowledge and skills to steer sustainable development, growth and prosperity in the most appropriate direction.

To provide students who want to enroll for highly specialised doctoral level studies in Public and Development Management, with a sound academic and research base from which to do so.

Senior Certificate with Matriculation Exemption or equivalent university admission qualification.

First degree: An appropriate B-degree

Honours degree: BPA Hons

Additional information

First degree: A tertiary diploma or equivalent academic status (NQF level 6) plus the Advanced Diploma in Public Administration (ADPA, NQF level 7), is an alternative learning route for gaining access, under condition that the additional BPA Hons (15) dubject is also followed.

Honours degree: The Advanced Diploma in Public Administration (ADPA) is an alternative learning route for gaining access. It is also possible to gain access to the programme after other honours degree in Public and Development Management, providing that supplementary BPA Hons subjects are followed during the study term.

  1. Demonstrated ability to read, interpret and apply specialised and technically complex Public and Development Management related literature including the ability to teach themselves from source material
  2. Shown a specialised detailed understanding of the use of scientific approaches and methods in the acquisition of scientific Public and Development and Management related knowledge (e.g. the importance of using specialised and technically complex research methodologies)
  3. Demonstrated ability to identify and solve specialised and technically complex Public and Development Management problems in a critical and creative way.

  11. Demonstrated ability to apply these specialised and technically complex Public Management related knowledge and practical skills to address theoretical and practical management problems.
  12. Demonstrated experienced specialised ability to learn and apply appropriate lessons from these technically complex experiences in order to solve technical Public Management related problems in such a way that sustainable developmental outcomes are ensured
  13. A demonstrated specialised understanding of:
  • The latest advances in complex theoretical explanations and modelling
  • Complex technical bodies of knowledge
  • The application of sound, comprehensive practical experiences and skills related to complex core technical aspects of the relevant Public Management related subject matter.

  1. The assesssment used for this qualification ensures that the purpose of the qualification is achieved.
  2. A range of formative and summative assessment methods such as simulations, assignments, workplace assessments, written and oral presentations and examinations are used.
  3. The required range of modalities is used integratively to assess whether the specified outcomes have been achieved.
  4. From the assessment of samples generalising to a domain takes place in a judicious and planned way in order to ensure reliability
  5. The assessment used meets the standard and level of achievement fo rNQF level 8.

INTEGRATED ASSESSMENT

Integrated assessment takes place by a way of a variety of procedures including practically orientated cross-disciplinary individual and group assignments, simulations, workplace assessments, written and oral presentations, tests and examinations.
