Purpose and rationale
Purpose
The purpose of the training is to equip the candidate with the necessary skills and knowledge to manage all aspects of clinical paediatric cardiology. In addition to treating cardiac disease the graduate would be expected to be able to:
- Research complex cases and coordinate multidisciplinary management.
- Audit results and manage treatment protocols.
- Plan and manage cardiology services.
- Educate nursing and medical staff.
Rationale
The training programme aims to allow certification (according to their requirements of the Health Professions Council of South Africa) as a registered subspecialist in Paediatric Cardiology.

Entry Requirements
A candidate shall not be admitted to the programme, unless he/she
- Submits proof that he/she, prior to commencing with education and training in the relevant Subspecialty, has complied with all the requirements for registration as a specialist in the primary or one of the primary specialities listed against the relevant subspecialty.
- Has been registered as a specialist in that field.
- Has been appointed against a Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)-approved training number.

Qualification rules
This qualification comprises two focus areas namely
- Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Paediatric Cardiology Part 1 (PED7012W) Level 9, 120 Credits.
- MPhil in Paediatric Cardiology Part 2 (PED7022W) Level 9, 60 Credits.
Exit level outcomes
- Built a sound knowledge base via reading, bedside teaching, tutorials, and journal club meetings developed a solid clinical grounding in paediatric cardiology through practical experience mastered the requisite procedural skills, and developed a highly effective communication skill set and a thorough understanding of ethics as well as developed an understanding of the theory and practice of evidence based medicine.

Integrated Assessment
The examination consists of two parts. The examination in Part I consists of one or more written paper(s) and/or such practical and/or oral examinations as the examiners may require. The examination in Part 2 (for those candidates who wish to obtain the Degree) consists of a dissertation.

The intended purpose of this Master of Accountancy is to provide the learners with a professional, vocational, and sound understanding of the general theoretical principles and their applications in the field of research accountancy.
