Purpose and rationale
This qualification includes the various specialisations in Nursing. Please refer to "Notes" for details on the specialisations:
- Produce a cadre of midwives who are equipped with advanced knowledge, skills and competencies in Maternal and Child health.
- Provide South Africa with professional midwives who are able to meet the maternal and child health needs of the country and contribute to reduction of alarmingly high rates of maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity (National Maternal, Child and Women's Health Directorate.
Entry requirements and RPL
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

- Bachelor of Nursing Science Honours, NQF Level 8.

Exit level outcomes
The purpose of the programme is to produce a nurse/midwife practitioner and team member who has acquired advanced scientific knowledge and skills to be able to:
- Apply advanced theoretical knowledge in Midwifery settings.
- Engage critically with current Midwifery issues.
- Undertake research.
- Apply advanced Midwifery skills.
- Lead and co-ordinate midwifery and neonatal services at district level.
- Plan and implement efficient and effective staff development programmes.
- Develop, implement and evaluate programmes to ensure quality assurance in a midwifery setting.
- Conduct a clinical research project and implement research findings.
- Maintain ethical standards of midwifery practice.
Associated assessment criteria
Integrated assessment
Continuous evaluation by assignments, written academic articles, case studies and seminar presentation. Final evaluation by clinical examination to test proficiency. Research thesis as summative evaluation for Master Degree. Evaluation strategies will capture integrated theory and practice and will reflect exit competency at each relevant stage.

The intended purpose of this Master of Accountancy is to provide the learners with a professional, vocational, and sound understanding of the general theoretical principles and their applications in the field of research accountancy.
