Purpose and rationale
Purpose
The purpose of the qualification is to graduate anaesthesiologists capable of delivering comprehensive, cost-effective patient care in anaesthesia, critical care and pain management relevant to a South African context. The objective is to produce a graduate with both academic a clinical skills necessary for independent specialist practice. Additional purposes include an understanding of research methodology and the literature, and an ability to answer questions by means of research and to pass on the knowledge, skills and attitudes of the discipline of anaesthesia to future generations of doctors.
Rationale
This qualification trains medical doctors to become specialists in Anaesthesia.

The minimum requirement is
- A Diploma of Anaesthesia.
Or
- A Completion of 2 years' internship and 1-year community service or similar year. Current registration as a medical practitioner.

This qualification comprises of compulsory modules at Level 9 totalling 180 Credits.

- MMed in Anaesthesia Part 1, 60 Credits.
- MMed in Anaesthesia Part 3, 60 Credits.

Integrated Assessment
Candidates complete the Colleges of Medicine Examinations Part 1 and Part 2, for which they get credit towards the Master of Medicine (MMed). They then complete a dissertation of 60 Credits before qualifying with the MMed Degree. All examinations and the dissertation are externally examined.

Purpose:
The intended purpose of this Master of Accountancy is to provide the learners with a professional, vocational, and sound understanding of the general theoretical principles and their applications in the field of research accountancy.
