Purpose and rationale

Purpose

Learners obtaining this qualification will be able to contribute to the improvement and development of the functions and operations of some specialised area(s) of the Tourism and Hospitality industry.

Rationale

To demonstrate a high level of overall knowledge in such specialised area(s), ranging from fundamental concepts to advanced theoretical or applied knowledge.

Entry requirements and RPL

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

A panel will assess the applicants RPL portfolio according to institutions RPL policy. The portfolio will entail

  • Four-year qualification or equivalent.
  • Evidence of substantial experience and professional development in tourism/hospitality.

Entry Requirements

The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is

  • Bachelor Honours in Tourism and Hospitality Management, NQF Level 8.

Or

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality Management, NQF Level 8.

  • Full Dissertation, 180 Credits.

  3. Successfully apply research methods. Record, synthesise and analyse findings to offer meaningful recommendations.

Integrated Assessment

The learner's ability to articulate the process as well as the findings and recommendations will be assessed by means of a comprehensive oral defense of the thesis. The written thesis and comprehensive oral defense will demonstrate that all the capabilities have been integrated.

The qualification aims to enhance research capacity and increase access by providing an opportunity to articulate to master's degree. The qualification will accommodate learners with a postgraduate diploma and relevant honours/qualifications on NQF level 8, a minimum of 120 credits achieved at other institutions as well as vertical articulation from relevant master's degrees.
