Purpose and rationale
Purpose
To equip students with the ability to assess, plan, implement and maintain management initiatives within a technical environment.
Rationale
The South African economy faces various growth challenges that inter alia, require technical management skills. These include the Joint Initiative on Priority Skills Acquisition (JIPSA) and Accelerated and Shared Growth Initiative for South Africa (AsgiSA).
This programme will contribute to the pool of highly trained technical managers with advanced knowledge and skills able to respond to the industrial development needs (specifically related to infrastructure) of South Africa and beyond.
It will also offer opportunities to newly graduate and mid-career engineers to undertake postgraduate studies in a field where there are distinct needs.
Engineering graduates who wish to move into technical management careers need specific management skills in order to succeed in these specialized environments. The programme will provide learning opportunities under supervision of experienced professionals and academics.

Various components of the programme are designed to draw on knowledge gained in undergraduate courses as well as the industry to address specific problems and shortcomings of managers in the engineering context. A variety of procedures and methods are employed to undertake the assessments. These include tests, examinations, case studies, individual and group assignments as well as an experiential learning component.

Purpose:
The intended purpose of this Master of Accountancy is to provide the learners with a professional, vocational, and sound understanding of the general theoretical principles and their applications in the field of research accountancy. The qualification will be treated according to the policies and procedures of the institution regarding master's dissertations, monitoring, and assessment of learners' progress in the qualification, provision for learners disputes regarding assessment results and Recognition of Prior Learning. The qualification aims to enhance research capacity and increase access by providing an opportunity to articulate to master's degree.
