Purpose and rationale

The purpose of this programme is to enable candidates to acquire adequate research skills in Xhosa within the Faculty of Arts. This requires attention to the following three important aspects:

  • A broadening and deepening of a student's knowledge in the Xhosa disciplines as specified. This is achieved through course work leading to detailed literature surveys.
  • The development of basic research skills.
  • The writing of a mini-thesis based on an accepted research proposal.

Entry requirements and RPL

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy. Prior learning and/or relevant experience will be recognised for entry into this programme where applicable and subject to Senate's discretion.

Entry requirements

The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is

  • Bachelor of Arts Honours in isiXhosa, NQF Level 8.

Exit level outcomes

  1. Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of Xhosa
  2. Research limited Xhosa topics.
  3. Express a Xhosa knowledge and generic research skills in an integrated, logical and coherent manner through written work.
  4. Conduct delimitation, literature searches, logical analysis, balanced interpretation, structuring and expressing, abstract thoughts logically and coherently, the consistent use of a system of references.

Associated assessment criteria

The following associated assessment criteria apply across all Exit Level Outcomes

  • Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of Xhosa in projects and papers produced.
  • Completed research is and produces evidence on a limited Latin topic of study.
  • Express knowledge and generic research skills in Xhosa in an integrated, logical and coherent manner through written work.
  • Structure abstract thoughts and expressed in a logical and coherent way.
  • Conduct delimitation, literature searches, logical analysis, balanced interpretation while demonstrating consistent use of a system of references.

Integrated Assessment

The following forms of assessment are used

  • Research papers.
  • Examinations.
  • A research proposal.
  • A mini-thesis.

The intended purpose of this Master of Accountancy is to provide the learners with a professional, vocational, and sound understanding of the general theoretical principles and their applications in the field of research accountancy. The qualification will be treated according to the policies and procedures of the institution regarding master's dissertations, monitoring, and assessment of learners' progress in the qualification, provision for learners disputes regarding assessment results and Recognition of Prior Learning. The qualification aims to enhance research capacity and increase access by providing an opportunity to articulate to master's degree. The qualification will accommodate learners with a postgraduate diploma and relevant honours/qualifications on NQF level 8, a minimum of 120 credits achieved at other institutions as well as vertical articulation from relevant master's degrees.
