Purpose and rationale

  1. To provide learners with in-depth knowledge and skills to be able to apply it competently in a variety of socio-economic environments, institutions and policymaking bodies.
  2. To contribute to sociological knowledge, theories and methods in an innovative and scientific manner.
  3. To provide the SA society with people who can analyse and direct the processes of health, industrial and social transition in an equitable and effective manner.
  4. To produce people who can confidently contribute to the academic debate and to have the necessary teaching abilities to contribute to the learning process.

Entry requirements and RPL

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is

  • Bachelor of Arts Honours in Sociology, NQF Level 8.

Exit level outcomes

  1. Demonstrate the ability to access, evaluate and summarise information in a logical and scientific manner.
  2. Use scientific knowledge and skills for responsible decision making in the social arena.
  3. Has sufficient research experience and expertise to undertake independent research for the furthering of sociological knowledge as well as for the solution to socio-economic problems.
  4. Can communicate and transfer sociological knowledge using verbal, technological and statistical skills.

The intended purpose of this Master of Accountancy is to provide the learners with a professional, vocational, and sound understanding of the general theoretical principles and their applications in the field of research accountancy. The qualification will be treated according to the policies and procedures of the institution regarding master's dissertations, monitoring, and assessment of learners' progress in the qualification, provision for learners disputes regarding assessment results and Recognition of Prior Learning. The qualification aims to enhance research capacity and increase access by providing an opportunity to articulate to master's degree.
