Purpose and rationale
Purpose
The primary purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifying learners with the ability to acquire, assess, analyse and interpret German linguistic and literary information and principles independently. The learners must be able to communicate and function in a German speaking environment and to communicate scientific findings in German, both orally and in writing, at a high level. The learners must be able to apply their knowledge of linguistic and literary principles independently and responsibly by using these in new contexts, interpreting literary works and using the language in new contexts. The learners must be able to reflect on and apply the principles acquired. The learners must demonstrate cultural awareness by being able to link their studies to other languages and cultures, as well as analysing literary works and evaluating them in their literary and cultural context.
Entry requirements and RPL
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Learners who have obtained qualifications in other countries that are deemed to be on an appropriate level will be assessed upon receipt of an application for such recognition. Access and or advanced placement will be conditional on the learner furthering their studies at this institution.

The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is
- Bachelor of Arts Honours in German, NQF Level 8.
Or
- Bachelor of Arts Honours: German Translation Science, NQF Level 8.

Exit level outcomes
The learners should be able to
- Identify and solve problems relating to German life, literature and language, using the German language at an appropriate level, as well as demonstrate the ability to reflect on German history and society as it is manifested in German literature through the ages;
- Work independently, taking responsibility for their own development, completing tasks satisfactorily and in good time;
- Collect, analyse, interpret and evaluate scientific information of a linguistic or literary nature, applying it to the literary works that they study;
- Communicate in German on a high level, being able to present scientific findings in German, both orally and in writing;
- Demonstrate the ability to link their studies in German to other languages and cultures;
- Develop learning strategies appropriate for language acquisition as well as literary criticism
- Demonstrate an awareness of cultural differences between South Africa and German speaking countries by analysing literary works and evaluating them in their cultural, historical and literary context;
- Demonstrate their ability to communicate in German at an acceptable level so that they may represent South Africa in German speaking contexts.

- Demonstrate problem solving skills and reflective competence by answering questions related to the field of study orally and in writing by submitting a dissertation reflecting such skills
- Complete assignments satisfactorily and timeously and come prepared to discussions with their lecturers;
- Collect, analyse, interpret and evaluate scientific information when preparing their dissertation on a literary and/or linguistic topic;
- Communicate in German on an appropriate level and present scientific findings in German, both orally and in writing;
- Demonstrate the ability to link their studies in German to other languages and cultures;
- Exhibit skills in language acquisition by communicating effectively in the target language and improving their ability;
- Communicate effectively across cultural barriers and demonstrate cultural sensitivity in dealing with the art and culture of German speaking countries;
- Interact with German speaking people (informal assessment at conferences and other occasions where the learners come into contact with German speaking people)
Formative assessment practices that will be implemented
- The formative assessment of the dissertation consists of informal discussions with the lecturer as the research progresses.
Summative assessment practices that will be implemented
- A dissertation is submitted.

As per the SAQA Board decision/s at that time, this qualification was Reregistered in 2006; 2009; 2012; 2015.
NOTES
This is an old qualification that has been recorded in June. This MA with endorsement qualification is registered as a separate qualification only with SAQA. At the Department of Education it is not registered separately, but it is included in the registration of the generic MA.

Purpose:
The intended purpose of this Master of Accountancy is to provide the learners with a professional, vocational, and sound understanding of the general theoretical principles and their applications in the field of research accountancy. The qualification will be treated according to the policies and procedures of the institution regarding master's dissertations, monitoring, and assessment of learners' progress in the qualification, provision for learners disputes regarding assessment results and Recognition of Prior Learning.
