Master of Arts in Ceramic Design

The qualifying learner will have developed research skills as a Ceramic Professional: as a Ceramic Artist, Crafts Person, Ceramic Designer Maker and Ceramic Academic and/or Researcher.

The qualifying learner can conduct independent research with supervision in a Ceramic Design related field, and contribute to new knowledge and production in that field. The research problem, its justification, process and outcome is reported in a dissertation and demonstrated in a body of work (highly sophisticated and innovative) and/or other means which comply with the general accepted norms for research at that level.

A qualification in Ceramic Design at Level 8 e.g. Bachelor of Technology (B Tech): Ceramic Design.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RLP)

• The qualification will be awarded to a learner who has provided evidence that the stated competence of the qualification has been achieved through experience that complies with the stated specified outcomes.

The qualification will be awarded to a learner who has provided evidence to the satisfaction of the assessors that the stated competence of the qualification, as detailed in the specified outcomes, has been achieved, either through education and training in a single provider's learning programme, or through experience that complies with the stated specified outcomes.

1. To be able to address research and development needs within the Ceramic Profession as a Professional Ceramic Artist, Crafts Person, Ceramic Designer Maker and/or Ceramic Academic and/or Researcher.
2. Apply research methods and techniques appropriately and correctly select the appropriate research method for the investigation.

Specified Outcomes

1. Develop and apply new knowledge within the selected field/area of research. Seen in the context of R and D within the SA ceramic profession.
2. Select the appropriate research method for the investigation.

Critical Outcomes

a) Identify and solve problems in which responses display that responsible decisions using critical and creative thinking have been made.

b) Work effectively with others as a member of a team, group, organisation, community.

c) Organise and manage oneself an one's activities responsibly and effectively.

d) Collect, analyse, organise and critically evaluate information.

e) Communicate effectively using visual, mathematical and/or languages skills in the modes or oral and/or written persuasion.

1. The research problem is clearly identified, defined and detailed in the research proposal and demonstrated in the final body of innovative work and/or dissertation (explication) and/or exhibition.
2. The use of literature surveys/ experimentation/ correlation/ causal analysis is justified fully and correctly in oral presentation and the written explication.
3. The listed and cited literature of the literature survey and the exposition of the research reflects familiarity with relevant and recent trends in new ceramic product development, technologies, techniques and processes including design solutions, models and theories in the chosen field.
