Purpose and rationale

Purpose

Apply educational knowledge, skills, principles and methods to analyse, interpret and understand management leadership concepts through assessing and recognising the prior learning experiences of working adult learners and then to develop, at a certificate level, the intellectual and practical capabilities of these learners in preparation for a career:

  • In business and industry.
  • Responding to the needs of the community.
  • In the public sector.
  • In the trade unions.
  • In life-long learning and the appreciation of the value of education and society.

Qualifying learners will demonstrate knowledge, skills and applied competence in the field of study that provide opportunities for continued personal growth, gainful economic activity and rewarding contributions to society.

Entry requirements and RPL

Recognition of Prior Learn (RPL)

The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

Entry Requirements

The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is

  • National Senior Certificate, NQF Level 4, granting access to Higher Certificate studies.

Exit level outcomes

  1. Correctly use management leadership terminology, definitions and classifications.
  2. Communicate effectively using appropriate language and media.
  3. Observe, accurately record and account for management leadership features in the field.
  4. Demonstrate and understand the techniques and strategies involved in academic enquiry and problem-solving.
  5. Understand the role of the managerial leader in society concerning human and economic development.

Associated assessment criteria

The following Associated Assesment Criteria will be used in an integrated manner across all Exit Level Outcomes

  • Analyse relevant case studies.
  • Solve managerial leadership problems according to set learning outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively within a management leadership context.

Integrated Assessment

Competence is achieved, through continuous assessment by demonstrating the ability to achieve the outcomes of the qualification:

  • Written assignments.
  • Discussion groups.
  • Examinations.
  • Problem-solving and the integration of knowledge and skills.
  • Teamwork.
  • Standardised marking and feedback on assignments and projects.
