Purpose and rationale

The learners of the social science degrees will have a deeper understanding societal context of the technology and thus provide the country with a workforce that can avoid the disruption that often accompanies the slavish adherence to the technological imperative. The science learners, while not unaware of societal issues, will be able to provide the deeper technical skills needed to make the technology operate effectively.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

Associated assessment criteria
Integrated Assessment
In the research projects, the learner will be expected to demonstrate an overall understanding of the programme and the capability to integrate the materials learned in the programme. The learner will be assessed using seminars which they must present to an external assessor, a written project report and the quality of the artefact produced (usually an IT application). These projects will take place in the third year and the fourth year exit points.
