Purpose and rationale

The qualification aims

  • To provide learners with a sound statistical basis for a higher level study of abstract statistics, such as advanced probability theory, statistical inference, non-parametric and categorical statistics, experimental design and analysis of variance, time series, demographic methods and statistical quality control.
  • To provide learners with a deeper understanding of the advanced theoretical statistical concepts and their properties.
  • To provide learners with skills for solving advanced statistical problems.
  • To provide students with insights into possible applications of these skills to other fields like management, commerce or government.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.
