Purpose and Rationale of the Qualification
- The (first) purpose of this qualification is to provide students with the opportunity to engage in advanced academic study and research in the areas of Biokinetics or Sport Science or Sport and Recreation Management.
- The (second) purpose of this qualification is to provide students with the relevant applied knowledge base needed to pursue professional opportunities in the areas of Bio kinetics or Sport Science or Sport and Recreation Management.
- The (third) purpose of this qualification is to educate professional and academic specialists who can address the needs for both individual development and the transformation of South African society through the medium of participation in sport and other forms of physical activity.

- Apply critical and creative thinking to the completion of research projects on a relevant topic in Human Movement Science.
- Participate effectively as a member of a group engaged in professional practice.

- Communicate effectively during professional applications, using visual and verbal means.
- Understand the scientific basis of Human Movement Science and the use of technology in the implementation of physical activity programmes that contribute to achieving both positive social and person health outcomes.

- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the multi-disciplinary knowledge base of Human Movement Science, including the effects of a variety of physical, social and economic variables on participation in physical activity.
- Apply knowledge of research methodology, statistics, and technology to the exploration of critical issues in Biokinetics, Sport Science and Sport and Recreation Management.
- Develop the professional skills needed to implement programmes enhancing he physical, social, psychological and/or motor performance status of participants in physical activity.
- Understand the regional, national and international infrastructure of the fields of Biokinetics, sport Science and Sport and Recreation Management.

Qualifiers will be able to
- Formulate research projects based on critical reviews of literature in Human Movement Science.
- Contribute as a member of a group making academic and professional presentations about relevant topics in Biokinetics, Sport Science and/or Sport and Recreation Management.
- Participate effectively in an applied professional context related to physical activity programmes.
- Discuss a variety of perspectives on the value of participation in exercise, sport and recreation programmes.
Qualifiers will be able to
- Complete a series academic projects that demand research in a variety of the sub-disciplines that characterise Human Movement Science.
- Sustain involvement as a practitioner in a clinical or field setting focused on exercise, sport and/or recreation activities.
- Present various or adaptations in plans for programmes based on an understanding of the implications of the cultural backgrounds of participants on their involvement in exercise, sport and/or recreational activities.
Qualifiers will be able to
- Demonstrate in oral and written presentations a grasp of the advanced principles underlying human movement performance from multiple perspectives, including the physiological, psychological, motor, biomechanical, historical perspectives.
- Design a thesis proposal as well as complete a research project on a relevant topic in Biokinetics, Sport Science, and Sport and Recreation Management.
- Discuss variations in strategies for professional applications related to participants` gender, age, cultural background and disability (if applicable).
- Apply principles for professional practice that reflect current international standards for Biokinetics, Sport Science, and Sport and Recreation Management.
Integrated Assessment
All students must successfully complete a series of academic presentations that demonstrate their ability to integrate theoretical knowledge from a variety of sources in order to address a relevant research problem in either Biokinetics, Sport Science, or Sport and Recreation Management.
