Learning outcomes

The graduate must be able to

  1. Assimilate, critically evaluate and correctly report on the molecular biology literature
  2. Apply a variety of specialised recombinant DNA techniques in the various biological disciplines
  3. Complete a molecular biology-based research project of a limited scope within an existing research programme in one of the Departments in the School of Biological Sciences
  4. Demonstrate conceptual thinking skills and an integrated perspective of various topics in genetics.

  • Identifying and solving problems in which responses display that responsible decisions using critical and creative thinking have been made
  • Organising and managing oneself and one`s activities responsibility and effectively
  • Collecting, analysing, organising and critically evaluating information

The outcomes will be assessed by means of

  1. Essays, as well as written and presented seminars on selected topics in molecular biology with integrated and cross-disciplinary assessment.
  2. The satisfactory execution of various specialized laboratory techniques and the submission of laboratory reports
  3. Continual appraisal in the execution of the research project, as well as final written and oral presentations with cross-disciplinary assessment
  4. Written and oral examinations to be assessed by both internal and external assessors.
