Purpose and rationale
Purpose
Bachelor of Nursing Honours Degree is a postgraduate programmes that enhances and deepen the students clinical leadership roles in a particular discipline and facilitating understanding in the current and future context of nursing as well as to develop research capacity in the methodology and techniques of that discipline.
Rationale
Honours in Nursing is a specialist field that focuses on advance Nursing Science. The programme plays a key role in the production, advancement and dissemination of knowledge and the development of critical-analytic students. Advanced Nursing Science impact on trends, contemporary legal and ethical issues in Clinical Nursing, create culture sensitive work environments for nursing students. The qualification provides the qualifying Nurse Practitioners with the further development of her/his intellectual, practical and reflective competencies/abilities (knowledge, skills, attitudes and values) as a Nurse Manager, Educator and Community Health Specialist to promote the health of the individual, family, group and community as an active member of the intersectoral, multi-professional and multi-disciplinary health teams.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
- Refresher course of 6 month for those who may not meet the requirements, experience as professional Nurse in the service.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
Entry Requirements
Bachelor of Nursing Honours Degree is open to students who have attained a sufficiently high standard in the final undergraduate course in Nursing, average of 60%. Candidates should be in possession of three-year professional Degree in Nursing, and or Advanced Diploma in Nursing field. Candidates shall have passed with 65% overall in Advanced Diploma in Nursing field. The programme shall extend over at least two semesters.

Integrated Assessment
- For each module, students will be expected to submit one written assignment (20%), write one test (30%), give oral presentation (10%), and write one 3 hours examination (40%) at the end of semester. For each formative task given, student will receive written and oral individual and group feedback.
- Student must obtain minimum of 40% in formative assessment to be admitted in final examination (summative assessment).
- Final pass mark will be 50%.
- Research project examined by 1 internal examiner and 1 external examiner, pass mark is 50%.
