- The purpose of the qualification is to provide learners with an advanced professional qualification.
- To enable learners to show advance knowledge in library and information studies by mastering the theoretical substance of the field.
- Show skills and attitudes in research by using a wide range of techniques or methods appropriately in the field of library and information Science.
- To improve the standard of information provision in organisations and in the community/society by producing experts in the field of information management.
- Empower learners with higher managerial skills by being able to identify and define complex problems and their solutions in the topic (research fields) of their choice.
Entry requirements and RPL
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

- The exhibition of this outcome is by the learners producing a mini dissertation from a topic accepted by the department and various committees in charge.

- Analyse and assess information needs and demands of specialised interest groups in society. The achievement of this outcome involves the ability of the learners to apply theory and to find solutions to pertinent problems.
