Purpose and rationale
The primary purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifying learners with
- Intellectual competencies and practical skills in the acquisition, analysis, interpretation and application of basic and advanced Information Management principles in the different functional units of the business organization.
- The ability to reflect on their managerial decisions and applications and to assess the effect thereof in the holistic context of Information Management as a practice.
- Knowledge in preparation for a career in the Information Management field, as well as to provide a basis for further learning.
Entry requirements and RPL
Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of prior learning in the case of learners not complying with the formal entry requirements will be conducted in accordance with the policy and guidelines of the Institution concerning the recognition of other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. Recognition takes place only where prior learning corresponds to the required NQF-level, and in terms of applied competencies relevant to the content and outcomes of the qualification. Through recognition of prior learning, learners may gain access, or advanced placement, or recognition of status, on condition that they continue their studies at this Institution.

- Plan and execute research in Information Management, by gathering, analysing, synthesising and interpreting the relevant information correctly and reflecting on research undertaken (research skills).
- Demonstrate effective communication competence with the different role players in the Information Management field and applying the theoretical principles of communication (oral/written) and reflect on the application made (communication skills).

Integrated Assessment
Formative assessment practices that will be implemented.
Learners are continuously assessed e.g. via practical group and class assignments, essays, presentations, informal class tests, and formal modular tests in a written mode. They also do independent research that leads to scientific assignments. In addition, learners will assess themselves as well as the work of each other and reflect on the dynamics of this process.
Summative assessment practices that will be implemented.
Integrated assessment, focusing on the achievement of the exit-level outcomes, will be done by means of a written two or three hour examination, one per module toward the end of the module (semester).
Pass requirements that will be implemented.
Learners have to obtain at least 40% in the formative assessment practices in order to gain entrance to the summative assessment. Learners pass a module if they attain at least 40% in the summative assessment and a final mark of at least 50%. The final mark is calculated by combing the formative and summative marks in a 50:50 ratio.
