Purpose and rationale
Purpose
The qualification is an undergraduate qualification that provides an overview of management practice in a national and international context. The qualification aims to develop conceptual understanding, synthesis and application of Management and management theory for learners wishing to progress in human resource management careers. The qualification is directed towards persons occupying or intending to occupy junior and middle management positions in private and business sector organisations and who are also aspiring towards senior management positions. It is directed primarily at school leavers to enable them to develop and improve their management skills. Such learners would not have had previous exposure to the theoretical underpinnings of Management and management.
Rationale
The qualification contributes to regional and national goals by facilitating capacity building and human resource development in management for social and economic development. It also promotes equity by providing affordable access to business management education to learners previously denied such opportunities. The qualification recognises and caters for the career and economic needs of learners who are in employment and provides learners with the opportunity to proceed on a course of study culminating in the attainment of Honours and Master's.
Degree in Human Resource Management. Finally, it empowers learners with the skills and competencies necessary to function and grow in the public, private and business sectors and broadens the social base of learners in higher education by targeting mature learners with work experience.
Entry requirements and RPL
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
There is policy of recognition of prior learning at the institution, the department of Human Resource Management will admit a learner based on learning which may have taken place outside of formal education and training, which is valuable, irrespective of where or when it was obtained. This includes skills or knowledge from work training and experienced gained in workplace, short courses from community work or relevant field. Prior learning will be measured against specified prescribed learning outcomes.

Integrated Assessment
Assessment extent to which the learner has grasped the basic concepts which form the base of management education. The application of Business and Human Resource Management theory to a practical context. The methods of research used and a balance between theory and practice and its relevance to the level of the qualification. The use of appropriate technology to ensure effective communication of ideas. Assessment methods measure the extent to which the learner has achieved competence in the different areas of study delivered through modules. These assessment methods include: case studies; report writing; interpretative and analytical problem solving in the written examination, work based assignments and self-assessment activities in the course material.

International comparability
Zambia
The qualification offers nearly the same as in Zambia. The University of Zambia (UNZA) offers qualification which runs over four (4) years, and it includes Honours Degree. The only difference is that they do not offer applied competences or work related competences which the institution has Applied Human Resource Competencies for three weeks.
Botswana
Botswana in the BA ISAGO University offers the same qualification of Bachelor of Human Resource Management. The qualification runs over four (4) years which include the honours qualification. The qualification consists of 32 modules including level four while the institution has 29 modules for three year level qualification. The third year includes six months compulsory work related attachments and which is being assessed in terms of BA ISAGO university workplace policy.
