Purpose and rationale

Purpose

Qualifiers will demonstrate knowledge, skills and applied competence in the field of study that provide opportunities for continued personal growth, gainful economic activity and rewarding contributions to society. Apply educational knowledge, skills, principles and methods to exercise human resource management skills required in the business, corporate and private sectors at middle management level.

Rationale

The qualification fills a need in Human Resource Management by producing a cadre of students focussed in this specialty. The qualification responds to the needs of:

Entry Requirements

National Senior Certificate (NSC) with Bachelor endorsement or Grade 12 Senior Certificate with university exemption APS 21-24 depending on stream. Life Orientation (3); and meet the required minimum levels of achievement in specific subjects as stipulated in the relevant calendars of each Faculty.

Exit level outcomes

  • Demonstrate an understanding, both in theory and practice, of the basic principles, theories and facts that are central to a set of subjects that form the core of a particular curriculum.
  • Have a broad knowledge base with substantial depth in some areas.
  • Demonstrate an understanding, both in theory and practice, of the principles, theories and facts that form the core of the major sub-disciplines of the Degree.
  • Analyse and evaluate a wide range of information and present the results as a logically structured and well-written essay.
  • Demonstrate a detailed understanding, both in theory and practice, of the principles, theories and facts that form the core of a major sub-discipline of the Degree.
  • Show a complete understanding of more than one topic within the sub-discipline.
  • Demonstrate basic research, creative problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Develop communicative skills and should be able to structure a logical argument both in writing and in the spoken form.

Integrated Assessment

The assessment approach is an integrated approach horizontally and vertically to ensure that Exit Level Outcomes have been met. Continuous and formative assessments, include tests, assignments, quizzes, presentations, and group work, and together they contribute 60% towards the final mark. These assessments will assess across and within learning outcomes. Summative assessment, which consists of a three-hour examination paper, is conducted at the end of each semester, and it contributes 40% towards the final mark.
