The primary purpose of the qualification is to
- Provide qualifying learners with training to meet perceived needs of a specialised Hospitality Industry.
- Produce learners with intellectual, entrepreneurial and practical skills relevant to the dynamic market environment.
- Equip learners with good analytical and communication skills and understanding of organisational needs.
- Blend vocational training with a broad management education for the industry's future leaders.

- Show understanding of the basic operations and management of gaming and casino, as well as the impact of gaming and casino on the food service and hospitality industry from various perspectives.
- Show understanding of accounting principles as well as hospitality promotions strategies.
- Plan, develop, market and manage hotels in the international arena.
- Demonstrate understanding of beverage management and service, fundamental principles and procedures for planning menus for different operating systems.
- Show understanding and be able to apply food and service management techniques and show understanding of concepts, strategies and management principles for effective hospitality industry management.
- Show understanding of the legal environment within which hospitality business operates.
