Purpose and rationale

To expose students to contemporary developments in the discipline of information systems and technology. To enable graduates to contribute to the strategic and tactical use of information in large corporations. To build a foundation for further studies in information systems and technology. Entry requirements and RPL

Students enrolling on this programme will be equipped to hold a Further Educational Certificate (Matric Equivalent), and have obtained a minimum of 40 matric points, plus at least a D in Mathematics at the higher grade.

Integrated assessment

The University of Natal is currently reforming its assessment strategies to include the assessment of applied competence for each qualification. In the meantime, a combination of continuous assessment and traditional written examinations serve to assess the integration of all/most of the learning outcomes for each module in a qualification.

A total of 20% of the credit points at level 6 are assigned to a major project during which students (working in teams) are required to develop and implement a computer-based information system which meets specific user requirements. This project pulls together all that the student will have learnt in the discipline of information systems and technology and much of what will have been covered an the supporting courses in the field of management studies.
