Purpose and rationale
Purpose
The purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifying learners with applied competence, on a postgraduate level, in the mastering, analysis, interpretation and understanding economic principles and methods, with a special focus on Econometric techniques.
Rationale
This qualification will prepare learners to reflect on their own economic applications to assess the effect thereof in the holistic context of Economics as a social science within their everyday lives and lastly, it will prepare them for further study in Economics and Econometrics as a science.
Entry requirements and RPL
Recognition of Prior Learning(RPL)
Recognition of Prior Learning(RPL) in the case of learners not complying with the formal entry requirements will be conducted in accordance with the policy and guidelines of the University concerning the recognition of other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. Recognition takes place only where prior learning corresponds to the required National Qualifications Framework(NQF) Level, and in terms of applied competencies relevant to the content and outcomes of the qualification. Through Recognition of Prior Learning(RPL) learners may gain access, or advanced placement, or recognition of status, on condition that they continue their studies at this University.

- Bachelor's Degree registered at National Qualifications Framework(NQF) Level 7 and a major in Economics as well as appropriate background in Econometrics and/or Statistics (NQF Level 5).

- Demonstrate the ability to identify and solve problems in the field of economic, business and financial management correctly by applying the theoretical principles correctly and reflect on the application made.
- Plan and undertake research in the field of economic, business and financial management, including the gathering, analysing, synthesising and interpretation of information on economic, business and financial management issues correctly utilising the relevant theoretical research principles and reflect on the research undertaken.
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing with different role players in the field of economic, business and financial management by applying the theoretical principles of communication and reflect on the application made correctly.
- Develop an accountable and effective theoretical and practical macro-vision of economic, business and financial management internationally, nationally, provincially, regionally and locally.
- Organise and coordinate resources and opportunities in the field of economic, business and financial management effectively and responsibly by applying the relevant theoretical aspects and reflect on the application thereof.

Integrated Assessment
The qualification is coherently aligned in that all teaching, learning and assessment activities are linked to module and qualification outcomes. Assessment methods are varied and includes summative and formative assessment to enhance applied competence from learners and facilitate authentic assessment and learning. Assessment will not only be used to determine whether outcomes were achieved, but also to generate data for grading and provide feedback in order to improve the curriculum. In order for all the assessment purposes to be achieved, Summative Assessment Approach (semester tests, examinations and the research project) forms part of assessment methods.
